The Count of the Fried Ham Sandwich
I often see images from thisiswhyyourfat.com get reblogged onto one or several of the tumblr blogs I follow. Usually, my first response to one of these photos is to suppress the urge to vomit. Today was different. Today, the photo presented something that looked halfway tasty, edible at the minimum. God help me but it did. It was a deep-fried grilled cheese sandwich.
I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking what I thought: it’s just a Monte Cristo minus the meat. Yes, yes it is. And this thought got me thinking further: why, exactly, did we need to deep-fry sandwiches? More importantly, why, having done this terrible thing, did we have to name it after an ornery fictional French Count?
