What do you write about when you have nothing to write about? It’s not as if there aren’t pressing concerns. There are pressing concerns everywhere, pressing so tight I’m wearing them like a turtleneck. The problem is there’s no particular urgency at the moment. Like some mutant fish living in the Gowanus Canal, I’ve become normalized to these strange, twisted times.

For reasons I can’t fathom, I never read Hunter S. Thompson. Any of it. I don’t know why. I just never got around to it. Well, finally, after watching two Thompson documentaries over last weekend, I find myself staring at a copy of the Modern Library’s volume of Fear & Loathing.
